Rojo the Maze Keeper
Her eyes dart this way and that. Every direction green, twisting limbs and thorned leaves invade her line of sight. Her breath comes in short, shallow pants. What direction had she come from? Did she last take a right or was it maybe a left? She wasn’t lost, or at least she refused to admit it to herself yet that she was. The maze was so still, shielded from the midnight breeze and causing it to be stifling hot and suffocating around her.
And then there was the crack of a twig behind her.
She whirred around, magic flaring in her eyes, ready to greet her attacker.
“Are you perhaps lost my lady?” A voice asked her from the dark.
His tone was sweet and soft as honey, it instantly took her aback. The Kudu was not often stirred but this beautiful voice stirred a few butterflies up from the depths of her stomach.
The owner of the gentle voice stepped forward. His horns came forth from the darkness first, curved and proud atop his head. Then the rest of his enormous body followed. He was a sight to behold, towering over the Kudu like an old oak tree. He smiled softly.
Suddenly she wasn’t thinking it was such a bad idea to come into this maze after all. She’d come for treasures promised by whispers and rumors in town…but she now saw that the only treasures here…were in the form of the maze keeper.
