She had never set eyes on the creature that lived here, not directly anyway. It was always just a shadow that moved amongst the rocks, quick and precise. It was a voice that growled from the deep belly of places she could not see in the darkness. In the depths of the earth, so far down almost no creature could survive here, this is where it chose to exist. She came when the villagers begged her. Nobody was brave enough to take offerings to the ancient thing in the caves, but if offerings were not given surely it would come forth from the earth and wreak havoc to their quaint town. The Kudu had agreed, her curiosity peaked. So here she was, having come back time and time again with a pack full of food cooked by the villagers hands. Meats, breads and the freshest produce they could offer.
“I come bearing your gifts ancient one!” She called into the inky blackness, her voice bounding off the rock walls.
A growl rumbled up from the heart of the cave, low at first before forming into a deafening sound.
“Leave it there small one,” He snarled.
She unloaded her heavy pack, placing it on the flat rocks before her.
“Good feast to you,” She said as she finished, nodding before turning to go on her way.
Maybe someday the thing in the caves would show it’s face to her.
